Graduation It's January 1st, 2004, and in going through my archives I realized I left a placeholder entry here back on 6/3 and never returned to write about it. I didn't know what to say then and I don't now - the day itself wasn't that great; it rained (for the first time in thirty years, I believe) so half the graduates had a rain delay til the afternoon and we were inside in the gym and there was no procession and no Pomp and Circumstance or anything. We were told "oh, just go inside and find your major." The president was in total denial that it was going to rain and so they had no rain plan really even though rain had been predicted all week. So it was brief and fairly unsatisfying, but I did get to stand with the other summa cum laude graduates (only seven total in my major) and I did get to walk across the stage and the faculty representative for the English Department was Dr. V, so it was all good. Greg's gift to me was a beautiful Jeanine Payer necklace on which had been custom engraved Dip him in the river who loves water ~ William Blake. (Well, it was originally a ring, but that drama's not worth going into. Suffice to say if you're going to buy Jeanine Payer jewelry, stick to earrings and necklaces. Don't buy anything that might actually come into contact with something other than your body.) Pictures below! ![]() Greg and I after the ceremony
