Official Endorsements A Reader Who Wishes Not To Be Named wrote and asked me what sort of personal care/beauty products I use, and what I like best. So for your reading enjoyment (or, perhaps utter boredom), here is the list of products Officially Endorsed By ladydisdain.com: Hair: The current shampoo/conditioner of choice is the entire Loreal Vive line, with the exception of the FreshVive conditioner which I find doesn’t condition enough. I also occasionally use The Strokes deep conditioning treatment from Lush, which smells sort of like Irish Stout and works beautifully. For styling I currently use Rusk Str8 anti-frizz lotion, but I don’t love it and have tried so many things and can’t find anything to really control flyaways. I use a little Tresemme hairspray to control the worst of the flyaways. (Suggestions welcome!) Shaving: The number one best shaving creme of all time, in the whole world, is Kiss My Face Moisture Shave for extra-sensitive skin. Don’t try arguing with me; I’ve tried at least fifteen different ones and this one rocks my world. It’s the only one that lets me shave every day (with my Personal Touch razor) without making my legs break out in tiny bumps. I (heart) Kiss My Face. Skin: I use Lush’s Lip Service lip balm. I’m back and forth on the whole facial moisturizer thing. I was using a BeneFit moisturizer and can’t figure out if it started contributing to my breakouts. I feel like using a moisturizer makes me shinier all day. I can’t find one light enough. I’m also having trouble finding an acne cream I like; Origins Spot Remover stopped working as did benzoyl peroxide. I’m currently sampling Dermalogica, but may ask my doctor for RetinA again. I tried Kiehl’s Drawing Paste last month and it smells horrific and made me break out. I was bitter. Makeup: With the exception of my Maybelline Great Lash mascara in Brownish Black which you will have to pry out of my bony, dead hand, I am strictly a MAC girl. My basic face includes StudioFix creme-to-powder base in NC15 applied mainly on my chin and then very lightly all over; lip pencil in Spice; lipstick in Twig; eyeshadow in Jest or Bisque; eyeliner in Taupe; blush in Sierra. It all takes less than five minutes to put on. However, I’m known to vary the colors a bit although I’m always quite neutral: lipstick in 3D or O, or Del Rio for evening; lip pencil in Cedar or Quartz; blush in Rose Quartz; eye shadow in Quarry/Yogurt or Truce or Shroom/Satin Taupe; eyeshadow-as-eyeliner in Trax. Deodorant/Perfume: I have to change my deodorant constantly, and am currently using Secret. It’s fine. As far as perfume goes - I’m not a heavy scent girl, but I do love my Demeter fragrances (Laundromat and Holy Water) and my Fresh fragrance in Wisteria, which I bought in Charleston with my girls. Soap: I wash my face with either Lush’s Fresh Farmacy or Queen of Hearts Complexion Soap, and my body with Lush’s Happy For S.A.D. shower gel. If these are not handy, I use Ivory. Scented soap=bad consequences for my skin. If I take a bath, I use a Lush bath bomb; Bon Bain Bonnard, Butterball, Fairy Jasmine (fun! Glittery!) and All That Jas are my favorites. Teeth: Colgate Toothpaste and toothbrushes are the only ones for me; all others are Wrong and Bad. I like the Colgate Fresh Confidence, especially the tube I bought in Canada which is written in English and French. I use a fluoride rinse but I buy whatever’s on sale, and I only floss with Glide. And that’s the official list! |
