Three Days Prior...
05 June 2002

I got jewelry. Can I get a woohoo?

A choker, bracelet, and earrings, all in teeny pearl, from Macy's. Also two teeny pearled hair combs from Claire's Boutique. Total spent: $65. Total I almost spent on one necklace at Nordstrom's alone: $100. Narrow escape, what?

(Sorry. Too much Black Adder.)

I spent way, way too much time at the mall today. I'm lucky I was even able to go at all - when I woke up this morning, I really couldn't move my head. After letting water pound on my neck in the shower and taking some Motrin, I was better. It's still better now, but sore. Not perfect. I'm dreading the morning, though, because that's when it's been horrific. So anyway, I set off to the mall to meet Mom. First, I stopped at Target, land of the $100 spree.

Come on. Can you get out of Target without spending $100? I didn't quite spend that much today, but I spent about $90. I bought really nice sheets since someone will be using our bed this weekend while we're gone (we've meant to get them for awhile and now we have incentive) and a doormat and GE Reveal bulbs for the new sconces in 40 watts, because the 60 watt bulbs we're using now are like turning on two small suns in the living room. And I bought a shower curtain liner and some intense peach Smints and paper plates/bowls/napkins for the Sunday post-wedding brunch. And just like that, poof, $90 is gone.

Then I met Mom and we shopped for, like, ever. I only needed jewelry but she also needed jewelry and shoes and first I needed to reassure her that her outfit for the wedding was just fine. As I'd said previously, we looked all over the 400+ store King of Prussia mall for something in Women's Sizes that my mom would look nice and feel comfortable in. The options were few and far between, especially in the "casually formal" category this small wedding falls into. She finally found a beautiful pants outfit at Macy's - silk pants and fitted tank in off-white with a beautiful pale beigey green ivyish pattern on them and a big pale beigey green silk shirt/jacket type thing on top. Terrible description but it's lovely - it's light, it's comfortable, it's a beautiful color, the fabric has a shimmer to it. Yes, it's more casual than formal but it's not something you'd wear to work; it's lovely and she's lovely in it. She finally said Are you sure it's okay? It's pants. You're not disappointed in me, are you?

My mother. My mother who has done everything, her entire life, for me and my brother. She could wear a trash bag to my wedding and I would never say a word.

I finally got her convinced and we bought her some beautiful jewelry - deep copper pearls on gold - and kicky ankle strap shoes. I'm sure I'll have to convince her some more but it's really not a formal wedding and her outfit is beautiful and she'll be able to wear it again and she'll be comfortable and that's what I care about, and I hope she finally believed me.

And then I bought a pale green silk shirt for Greg to wear to the rehearsal-dinner-that's-not-because-there's-no-rehearsal on Friday and a sleeveless crimson lace top for me to wear, and then I bought a book and sat in the food court and ate Chick-Fil-A and then I went home.

And here I am.

Tomorrow I have to clean all the floors and Greg has to clean his bathroom and I need to do laundry and we're having dinner with his parents at 6:30 and somewhere in there we're hoping to see Insomnia and I'm hoping to write a journal entry that's not a long, brainless ramble about everything.

Ha.

(Did I mention we still haven't decided on readings?)

(Did I mention Patti gets here tomorrow! Yay!)

(Did I mention the weather for Saturday is supposed to be 79 and mostly sunny?)
