Down To the Wire

I am getting married.

I am getting married.

In less than three weeks. In less than three weeks! I know, I'm saying everything twice - but I am getting married in less than three weeks!

(I guess I said that already.)

Everything is sort of rushing along now and my head feels sort of spinny. Greg and I are trying to slow down and enjoy it but everything is happening so fast and sometimes it feels like we're not even here - you know? So we're trying to keep everything in perspective.

We found a florist; I returned the blue wedding dress and bought the rose one; I made a consultation at the hairdresser's and one at MAC and I have an appointment tomorrow to get my hair cut and colored. I'm supposed to get a facial Friday, my first - I'm going to ask my hairdresser if she thinks I should (we have very similar skin) and then cancel it or keep it depending on her advice.

My wedding band (which came in wrong a second time!) should finally be ready tomorrow and we will pick it up in the city. I still need shoes and jewelry but we bought Greg a tux which needs to be picked up. Stupidly we managed to lose our minister's phone number (?!!?) but we think we tracked him down online. We've finally started to think about what music we want the classical guitarist to play at the ceremony. We picked entrees and appetizers for the luncheon and the dinner Greg's parents are throwing the night before is almost set.

(My brain is as jumbled as this list.)

Sunday I had a wee shower; Corina and Kate tried to throw a large one but my family for one reason or another couldn't make it. So between that and many friends who were either out of town or had prior commitments, it ended up being tiny.

Tiny and perfect. My mom took the six of us to tea and we had a fabulous time, a much better time than if my family had been there. And I missed my friends who couldn't make it but it was really a wonderful day. Corina and Kate have been my Anti-Bridesmaids; my girls and Erica and Patti would have been my bridesmaids if we were having that type of wedding and Corina and Kate have done so many things to help me that I almost feel like they are. I love my friends and am so grateful for them.

The shower showed me one thing I hadn't realized: Greg and I have a Crate and Barrel registry. This was seriously a surprise, because I thought I'd deleted it. We'd originally made this months and months ago when we were told by family that we should register because people will ask (and sure enough, people have asked) even though it's a second marriage. But we decided we'd register at amazon.com and Target instead, figuring they'd be more widely available to everyone.

So I was very surprised to find out that the beautiful soup tureen Denise gave me was...from my Crate and Barrel registry, which I didn't think existed anymore. The really funny thing? The next day, another Crate and Barrel box arrived - this one from Greg's cousins. who'd sent us a platter - from our registry. I decided to pull up said registry and found that five or six other things have also been purchased. Somehow, we ended up with three active registries. We have managed to do much of this wedding planning backwards.

We still don't know if we're having favors (anyone have clever ideas for thirty people?) and we haven't picked out readings yet (I've been looking for a Romantic poem but I can't find anything appropriate) or bought a unity candle or (and this is a stressful one) figured out where to spend our wedding night. We went to get our marriage license today only to realize when we got there that it's Election Day and the county offices are closed.

It seems like we've done so much and yet there is still so much to do - and I haven't even talked about the party yet. That will have to be an entirely separate entry, I'm afraid - doesn't your head hurt enough after this one?

(I am getting married!! In seventeen days!!!!)

In the wedding spirit, I've started a little project for another journaler. Go here to learn more or to join in!
